Plat Beats: Kruisemode

In today’s digital age, every average individual has a space to showcase their work. Jon Mackey, aka Kruisemode, creates a head-space that is far from average. Help the world get to know this up and coming hiphop-glitch-deephouse producer.

Peep his beats today.

Props to Gabe Harden and Matt Fem for the steezy vid.

Another Plat Nom: Getting High on Kyrstle

No, not meth. Just a little neurosoup to get your day started.

Strawstruck: Just One of The New Real Musics

TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, time-traveling heralds of a bygone era, here to warn us of the same old passing away.

An ‘oldy’, something blue, but new to me.

Get Graphic.

Plat back,

Why should you be limited to one medium?

Graphic designers have honed the art of combining photography, drawing, and digital manipulation. These artists break the norm creating images that can bend your perception of reality.

Get with it. Get Graphic.

Straw’s berries: Motion in the Ocean

Once I heard about a video of a guy who started a fire with his chi, but when he found out the footage had been shown publicly, he withdrew from society, never to be heard from again, ashamed as he was at revealing his abilities. No story is the same between tellings.

Straw’s berries: The new and the edited.

So, after effects. Adobe. Mastery of simple things = professional appearances, apparently. Your apprehension of quality is presented to you by Coke. Voila:

The Young and The Talented.

Plat here,

With the rise of the interwbez came a revolution in creativity. Anyone anywhere can produce and publish their work for the world to see.  Independent artists have a free venue to display their work. This is changing the game in film making.

Jesse Burrell is making serious moves. After submitting this to a Biscuit video contest, they quickly scooped him up for other projects. Check out more of his stuff with NoCoastTV

While on the topic of up and coming filmmakers, I can’t help but give a shout out to my boy Gabe Harden. I am in love with everything about this short edit starring Sophie Reppert, shot by Mathea Millman and edited by Gabe. Feel free to CHECK OUT MORE.

Ba-Ba-Beauties.

Plat here,

As a blonde, I cannot help but appreciate the others around me. It’s time to celebrate our platinum and strawberry friends. Here are some hotties with dangerously swanky hair color for the books. ImageImageImage

K-Swag

Miss Plat here, back on my bloggin’ grind.

For the past two weeks, I have been lucky enough to twist my perspective an enjoy a new culture. So far, Korea has shown me the mindmending power of a soju (rice wine) hangover,  the benefits of never having to leave a bar to smoke dirt cheap cigarettes, and most importantly the necessity of kimchee at every meal.

But these are mere accessories in the juicey culture I have dunked my head in.

B-BOYz

Damn, these boys can dance. I had the opportunity to attend R16, an urban art festival and break dancing competition. From the moment I sat in my overly comfortable concert seat, these jacked b-boys had my full attention and my heart. Crews from Khazistan, France, Taiwan, Russia, Japan, China, USA, and Korea came out to share the love and respect of b-boying and the hiphop culture around it. Thanks Vimeo for da vid!

ARTz

The perfect comlpiment to the yummy dancer boys was the side dish of delicious graffiti murals. Street artists from around Seoul gathered to spray their love of art over the hiphop influenced scene. Check out local Seoul artist Xeva’s fresh style in his work “Canvas”.

Thanks to google images for lettin’ me steal this pic!

JAMz

The cherry on top of my exciting day and evening was the surprise performance from the Korean hiphop star Drunken Tiger. I did not expect much from the less than sober feline but he yet again showed me a taste of K-Swag. Take a lil’ listen for yourself.

Thanks YouTube. You always come through for us blondies.

Grab Bag of Goodies

After much delay, Plat is back bringing the goods.

Wrap you mind around this vid. This epic combines bold wiggley shapes with the musical stylings of Blockhead for truly the trippiest video ever.

A special thanks to Petey M and Youtube for this fabulous find.

Oh and anybody else like Sleigh Bells? Because you should. This Brooklyn duo masters noise pop while being way too cool for school. Check you the new music video for Rill Rill. It’s banging.

Shout out to Shawn Barder. Check out his excellent combination of body art and oil mastery.

Self Portrait by Shwan Barber

Thanks Youtube and Shawn Barber for today’s goodies.

Bounce Little Kitty….

CALLING ALL CAT LOVERS. Plat here bringing a much needed dose of feline frenzy. For all my cat ladies and dudes, take note.

First off, OH MAN.

Let’s Make Nasty by Larry Tee (remixed by AfroJack) has been all up in the business of my brain as of late. After spending the weekend with a fellow blogger, I can’t keep away from this kitty-cat jam. Go ahead. Bounce around. I know you wanna.

Secondly, Wow! That’s one big kitty.

Lastly, I give you Dancing with Cats.

I kid you not

Dancing with Cats

I kid you not kiddies, this artform most certainly exists. In fact, I have a legitimate website to prove it. Try me.

Oh, and you’re gonna wanna check out this “behind the scenes” footage. Haahahahahahah.

Makin’ a scene.

It’s Plat again. Since the begining of forever, live music has been the go to form of entertainment. With the rise of electronic music, DJs and producers haven’t given us much to watch. Sure, we rage face to dirty beats that drive our bodies to undulate and wiggle, but we’re missing a focal point.

Zoe Jakes

Zoe Jakes of Beats Antique

Beats Antique, an experimental world fusion group from San Fran, is changing the way we see electro. David Satori and Tommy Cappel mix Indian raga, clown music, and old school jazz while Zoe Jakes hypnotizes the audience with her unique belly dancing. AND to top it of, its all laced with phat beats Bassnectar would approve of. Thanks Youtube.

Much like Beats Antique, the performance collective Cirque de Womp combines the draw of electronic music, specifically dubstep, and crazy circus acts. I got a chance to spy these kooky clowns at Camp Bisco 2010 as they took on FIRE; spinning poi, hula hooping, and juggling. Check out their promo vid. Thanks YouTube.

Lights out.

Caterpillar Shpongle Dancers

Hey team, Plat here. For all of us nocturnal beings, here is some inspiration.

I had the pleasure of capturing these blacklight beastys at Visonary Art Festival in May of 2010 at the SonarBaltimore. During Shpongle’s DJ set, neon lizards, birds, insects, and dragons danced across the stage accenting the groovy sphongley sounds.

Throw Back! Remember back in the day when dad would dress up as Jack Skelington and mom as Sally Doll? Well, I certainly do. Nightmare Before Christmas was an integral part of my childhood, and the Oogie Boogie’s show stopping number is one to be remembered. Note the illin’ blacklightin’.

In other mesmerizing news, here’s a brain burning lightshow by Ayo.

Thanks YouTube for all of today’s links! Keep it up, you’re killing it.

Wrastlin’

Strawb again, just a quickie. I took the liberty of parsing Alan Watts’ “The World as Self” so that you wouldn’t have to go digging for that cherry-on-top finish to your favorite religious flamewar.

It's like listening to Alan Watts through a kaleidoscope

allofthisisforyou.com, Thanks Randal Roberts

By “parse” I surely mean “combed somebody’s 21-part upload.” Thanks Youtube.

Keeping up with the kids

Strawb here. Trying to stay topical. Here’s why the name Kato sounded so familiar when the OJ trial was all over TV. Thanks Youtube.

Whew, just googled “Twitter,” he said. Glad to see Kanye made the top ten, but here’s my fav hit:

You aren't missing anything.

Thanks Google

So, apparently “google” isn’t a verb yet, but Microsoft spell-check will autocorrect googled to Googled…Oh wait, nevermind. It will also capitalize johned and victoriaing. So much for Skynet. Proper nouns.

Oh hey!

I wish you could see this. Maybe reload?
